Training & Apprenticeships
At Mike’s Boatyard, we are committed to developing the next generation of maritime professionals. Our training program provides hands-on experience across all aspects of our operations, from welding and fabrication to marine engineering, workboat operations, and civil construction.
We currently have two apprentices—one specializing in welding and the other in marine engineering—who actively contribute to the wide range of services we offer. Training has always been a key part of our boatyard’s history, with many young trainees, including local Sea Scouts and individuals with no prior maritime experience, going on to successful careers in the industry.
Even after moving on, many of our former apprentices stay connected, regularly returning to the yard—some even weekly—drawn back by the friendly, supportive environment.
We also offer limited work experience placements, though availability depends on capacity and the nature of the work. If you’re interested in gaining hands-on experience in a real working boatyard, feel free to get in touch to discuss opportunities.
Our apprentices receive hands-on training in all aspects of marine engine work, from installation and repairs to routine maintenance and diagnostics. They work on a variety of engines, gaining real-world experience to prepare them for careers in the maritime industry.
